Laura’s Cheap Trick #37

Shipping and Mailing Boxes/Padded Envelops – Re-Use them.

I own a small business but before starting my own company I worked for others.  One place I noticed huge waste was in shipping and packaging.  Our company would spend oodles of cash on brand new boxes, bubble wrap, plastic popcorn, padded envelopes.  I remember the first time I received a package in obviously reused packing supplies and with it came a note.

  • If you notice our boxes look worn and re-used it is because they are.  We believe in reusing until it is worn out.  If you are able to re-use this box please do.  If it is done then please recycle it.

I thought this was brilliant and seized upon the idea many years ago.  In the 10 years I have owned my own company I have NEVER purchased boxes or shipping material.  A new envelop sure.

The holidays are coming upon us and many of us will order online.  Save the box and reuse it!  It is that simple.  Not sure you will need it right away.  Then break it down so it is flat and save it for later.
