Laura’s Cheap Trick #58

Compare. Compare. Compare.

My husband does the food shopping in our home and comparison shopping is not something hard-wired into the male DNA…but now that we have been on a belt tightening agenda for 2 years he is beginning to wise up to trimming the food budget in a variety of ways.  Today he proudly showed me two containers of oatmeal both generic brands both have the same cooking times and taste.  One is 2.5x larger and cost half of the other.  He then went on to say over the past several months has been able to cut our food budget by $20 to $40 per week.  So yes, comparison shopping does work…it may take a little more time but once you are in the swing of where to go it will come naturally.
